Aquilano.Rimondi Milan Fashion Week S/S 2013
Creative directors of Aquilano.Rimondi, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, presented over thirty extraordinary looks for spring/summer 2013. According to them, next summer is a good time to leave a strong impression by wearing sharp clothes with the focus on strict lines and geometry.
The inspiration for the upcoming season comes from the Federico Fellini’s movie La Strada, the Carnival of Venice, Italian fashion designer Roberto Capucci and painted Japanese masks. Eastern influence is the most noticeable in cuts that resemble the kimono structure or in some pieces that refer to the Geisha wear (shirts and belts, for example).
Beyond doubt, at first glance we can see that this is a dress-friendly collection. Statement frocks are without exception an important part of many outfits and they, as well as skirts, come in two lengths – mini and midi. Bustier top is a great fit in a variety of combinations, whether it is juxtaposed with a long pencil or shorter balloon skirt. There were not many garments with deep cleavage, because the designers opted for horizontal necklines, boxy tops and tunics. The duo insisted on the hourglass figure and the waist was even more emphasized with wide belts and contrasting peplums. One of the most attention-grabbing and controversial items is the black and white corset dress that is kind of a mystery. It is either too short, or it is in fact a blouse with too long peplum. All in all, one can get easily confused when trying to figure out what’s what in this ensemble.
Vibrant colors in the spectrum are put on the black and white basis and there is not just the bold color blocking trend, but also the pattern blocking technique. Silk and satin in white, black, purple, electric blue, turquoise and burgundy are adorned with graphic harlequin jacquards, fan and bended diamond prints and sequin embroidery.
Just before the show, Aquilano said that fashion should be fun. In regard to this statement, we think that architectural forms, rich color palette and mixing different types of patterns are more than just fun.
