Temperley London London Fashion Week S/S 2013
We are looking at the S/S2013 collection by Alice Temperley and we are thinking: ''Man, movie divas of the 1950's really knew how to live their life to the fullest.'' For the next season, fashion label
Very classy title 'Return to Elegance' hints at the core attributes of this line-up – a refined design, luxurious materials and impeccable detailing. Sensuality is increased to the maximum, and here and there appears a desire to push the panic button because of too much excitement. The show started off with a series of skirts and dresses made of sheer and solid fabric stripes, alternately placed as when you make a cake and put all the layers together. This transparent motive is what dominates up to the final walk. Apart from these bold peekaboo moments, it is obvious that the designer was inspired by the ornate Moorish tiles (handmade Maroccan mosaic tiles) and frocks with that particular pattern send us right to the oriental corners of Casablanca.
Temperley's proposal holds a few jumpsuits with long trouser legs that flatter the elongated silhouettes. Blouses and shirts paired up with stunning skirts contribute to the diva/femme fatalle theme, but all the pieces are made to be statement separates without pulling off the whole runway look. Furthermore, colarless jackets are there to help the outfits keep the stylishness and add some vintage value to them.
While the first part of the collection can be classified into daywear, the other part is more to be seen under the moonlight. Considering the color palette, white and cherry red are replaced by black, navy and pale blue. Alongside of chiffon and organza, there was more lace as the fashion show was approaching the end.
When it comes to accessories, wide-brim hats, Charlotte Olympia platform sandals, retro sunglasses from Cutler and Gross and Cornelia James gloves are a direct hit combined in such a breathtaking way.
We heard that the talented Alice Temperley had thought of the young Sophia Loren when designing this masterpiece, and accordingly, we find that Lana Del Rey already has her eye on some garments that will fit the old-glamour lifestyle that she promotes.
