Saddle Lock
Refined innovation applied to tradition. A bike featuring an incorporated lock in the seat was the concept of designers Lee Sang Hwa, Kim Jin Ho and Yeo Min Gu, winners in the design category of the ‘Red Dot 2012’ contest.
In the recent years bicycles have regained their role in society as routine means of transportation, presumably due to growing environmental responsibility, to the rising cost of fuel as well finding it a suitable way of exercising.
Saddle Lock was conceived for a specific target; modern people living in urban cities who frequently utilize bikes for short crossings. A five minutes stop in a coffee shop before proceeding to work, a quick hit at the market to purchase groceries, are both situations in which people would rather leave the bike unsecured than spend extra time to lock it.
As someone said time is precious, that is why Saddle Lock was created to lock the bike quickly and without requiring any additional item. With a simple backward movement of the seat the posterior wheel locks, simplifying what would normally be a detailed time-consuming process for the conductor. The saddle features a U-shape cutout that allows it to rest perfectly on the wheel.
Just as locking, releasing the bike is a dégagé chore; by rotating the combination lock that extends from one end of the saddle to the other, the wheel is freed.
