WMF SmarTea Teapot

The WMF SmarTea Teapot combines the cold, industrial feel of stainless steel with the warmth of rounded glass and real flame. You can watch the shade of the tea change as it steeps in the careful curve of the transparent pot. You might even be inclined to leave it in its container and watch the light come through instead of pouring the tea into a mug with milk and sugar. The balance between hard, harsh materials and soft lines is only one facet of this piece that makes it a worthwhile addition to your kitchen.

Underneath the glass pot, there is a space within the steel to place a small candle to keep the tea inside hot. Although it serves a practical purpose – it is part of the functioning teapot – it also adds more movement and life to the gently flowing lines as the flame flickers. The flame joins the tea leaves and hot water as an earthly contrast to the steel and glass – the use of a singular flame is reminiscent of the most basic concepts of the natural world. When placed so delicately within the body of the industrial stainless steel base, all of the stacked pieces of the teapot come together in a lovely marriage of hard and soft lines, harsh and gentle shapes – a melding of hot water and flame with cool steel.

Even when you aren’t using the EMF SmarTea Teapot to make tea, it isn’t unreasonable to want to leave it out on the countertop instead of locking it away in a kitchen cabinet. The simplicity in its shape and materials warrants a permanent spot on display.
