Pedro Pedro Modalisboa AW 2013

Through his latest collection, presented during the ModaLisboa Trust, the young designer Pedro Pedro has shown that he 's not afraid of mixing and matching in his outfits opposite elements. Gifting us with the image of an androgynous woman able to keep her feminine allure even with clothes which tend to minimize her curvaceous shapes.

The collection has been inspired by family portraits of North American Indians from which the designer has taken and matched tribal elements with less traditional ones. A choice well-rendered also in the chromatic palette composition: apparently simple, favoring black and white to which the designer then combines, with exemplar homogeneity, gray, camel, brique and green.

Pedro Pedro fuses destitution and opulence working on precious fabrics - like wool/cashmere, fur and textured silks – with straight and essential cuts. Thus creating a current and contemporary effect which highlights and emphasizes the extremely well-finished nature and craftsmanship of the chosen materials.

Like an urban and metropolitan Pocahontas, the woman proposed by Pedro Pedro stands above the city wearing sober clothes which don't require extravagance or excess enrichment to get noticed. The lengths of the skirts never rise above the knees, yet they don't interfere with highlighting the shape of the woman or masking her sensuality;  thus sketching a close-fitting and smooth silhouette thanks to the application of never-exaggerated tears  and overlaps in layers of the elements. The simple and polished shapes are enriched by fur and hair details, key elements  for the accessories as well – from the clutch bags to the belts – that the Portuguese designer decided to send on the runway.

The outfits present a polished and eclectic look thanks to the interchanging lengths and amplitudes: at  times extra long and wide (like the coats), and other times reduced and extra fair (like the sweaters or blazers) , yet always perfectly balanced and well- matched.

The final result is the image of a woman who is able to combine her innate femininity and masculine elements, who doesn't give up her roots though she is perfectly modern and cosmopolitan:  heterogeneous and consistent with Pedro Pedro's attitude.
