FireFly by GeoSpace Studio

FireFly by GeoSpace Studio is a human-powered recumbent trycicle replicating the form of the soft-bodied beetles making crepuscular use of bioluminescence, with which it shares its name and the visibility scope of its self-illuminated glowing shell.

The natural comparisons stop here, as Firefly actually presents itself as a rather futuristic, UFO-like head-turning vechicle.

Its cool exterior brings a splash of modernity to the cycling act and represents an ingenious example of incremental innovation applied to sustainable contemporary life means.

GeoSpace has conceived the good kind of design that responds to the needs of target users, one in which form and function optimally complement each other.

Cycle-riders’  otherwise peaceful lifestyle is in fact only crossed by uncomfortable adverse weather, namely cold and wet, and the safety issue of not being seen by cars or other riders at night time.

Firefly is topped by a transparent dome allowing visibility to the rider, while the bottom part of the shell presents colored LEDs,  conversely allowing  the rider to be visible.

As of yet, GeoSpace Studio has no plans of putting FireFly on the market, but still this simple design concept presents great potential, especially considering countries with a widespread bycicle adoption and common ghastly weather.
