The biggest Aquarium in Northern Europe

Aquarium The Blue Planet by 3XN - Cover

Reminiscent of a starfish or some exotic flower, the new building of Danish Aquarium The Blue Planet near Øresund strait became the biggest Aquarium in Northern Europe. The overall volume of the fish tanks is seven millions litres with the twenty thousand of inhabitants. The project of the building belongs to 3xn studio who won an international architecture competition to design the Blue Planet in 2008.

The designers have chosen a dynamic whirlpool-like shape that would pull the visitors in; from the circular foyer they can choose their own path. Each of the “waves” is dedicated to a different river, lake or ocean.

The interior mixes light, sound, advanced AV-technology, projections, film, interactivity, graphics, illustrations and signs in order to create an experience of life in and under the water.

The Blue Planet Aquarium project was shortlisted for World Architecture Festival 2013.
