Designed by Aytac Architects in 2014, the Apartman 18 luxury residential building is a far cry from the concrete cookie-cutter buildings surrounding it. This beautiful 10-story construction pays an homage to Erenkoy’s vineyards, which were completely destroyed during the 1970s building boom.
Hidden among the grey neighbouring blocks, the innovative building design offers a modern and dynamic take on a standard residential building. Transgressing the bounds of traditional forms, the vine-like building design emerges at the ground level, functioning as a landscape element. Similarly to a grapevine, it continuously moves upwards, finishing at a meditative roof garden, which allows the residents to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
The sculptural construction is surrounded by metal bands, which serve both as decorative and functional elements, wrapping the building with balconies. Fluent and delicate, the intertwined facade creates a sense of privacy without skipping on the light. The dynamic design of the building manifests itself in the hallway that symbolizes the inner circulatory system of the apartment. And the movement does not stop there – the hallway connects the living and sleeping quarters, which are placed on the neighbouring facade, thus creating a visual connection with the city.
