At the recent ELLE Style Awards in Copenhagen I had the fortune to be seated next to the Danish goldsmith and jewellery designer Charlotte Lynggaard during dinner. As the daughter of the iconic Ole Lynggaard one could easily get the idea, that she had always had the aim of becoming a her father’s partner and co-jewellery maker from early childhood. But not so.
Charlotte’s passion for what we can experience as state of the art of modern jewellery wasn’t unfolded until she has familiarized herself with advertising and campaigning in a Parisian agency, where she worked around the clock and acquired the hang of the effort excellence requires as an investment.
As anyone can tell from a mere glance at the Lynggard design, the playful and artistic jewellery hallmarks a unique, fairytale universe inspired by nature’s materials, its seasons and by a feminine and strong character. It seem that Charlotte’s jewellery has not been created with the intention of signalling the traditional upmarket wealth and status, but rather to tell its own story by means of the soft and organic shapes, its delicate balance in tones and its mixture of leather, silk, and shades of gold.
The luxury jeweller appeals to the trendy demands of individuality by encouraging wearing more than one piece and creating personal combinations. Charlotte was kind enough to guide me regarding the pieces she though would supplement and enhance my character. And surely, I now carry the heavy Lynggaard catalogue in my bag, fuelling the desire to inhabit the Lynggaard universe of Danish luxury and fairytale.
