In recent times Italy has been looking with interest and admiration to the so called ‘Miracle on the Han river’: an unparalleled growth that South Korea has been witnessing in the last decades. It is not surprising that Korean fashion is under examination as well. Twice a year, Seoul and in particular the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the new civic arena designed by Zaha Hadid, hosts the most important Korean global fashion business event.
Hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government and organized by Seoul Design Foundation, Seoul Fashion Week dedicates the first two days to menswear designers and the last four to women’s clothing. Among the big names showing here there are Cy Choi and Resurrection, both dominated by a masculine, dark soul, Fashion Story, which proposed metallic dresses and sequins and pushButtons, with oversized items all over the stage.
Seoul Fashion Week also hosts ‘Generation Next’ an initiative that has established its prestige of cultivating upcoming designers. The participants are restricted to designers of independent fashion brands presenting uncommon perception and unique ideas in a gateway to the fashion industry for the next generation of designers.
