Asymmetric Design by Young Designer

Young fashion designer from London presents us her new collection “An Active Disturbance”. The main focus of her work is its asymmetric design, however, it is not the only thrilling aspect of the collection.

Amy Bennet is a London based womenswear designer and a recent graduate of Kingston University. Amy admits that her designs had influenced from both masculine and feminine silhouettes. Besides, she also mentions that her main focus now is to challenge conventional methods of garment construction through experimental pattern cutting and drape.

The key feature of ‘An Active Disturbance’ is asymmetry. In her collection, Amy shows how twisting and stretching causes one sleeve to shift across the body while the other drapes backward. The collection explores how garment structures are forced into taking new forms and embodying characteristics caused by motion.

The asymmetric design creates a sense of awkwardness and restriction for the wearer. However, at the same time, the appearance of discomfort is contrasted by the soft wool blends and cotton shirting, which are commonly associated with comfort.

“An Active Disturbance” is a fascinating collection, where young designer Amy Bennett proves that asymmetric design could look trendy and gracefully no matter what.
