The spirit of Renaissance in David Koma’s collection

David Koma’s latest collection is exactly what we’re longing to see on the runways of London. It’s a bit dark, ever so often provocative and unapologetically edgy.

The au courant creative director of Thierry Mugler, stuck to his signature formula once more. This time his sharp attire was enriched with Renaissance aesthetics inspired by the works of German painter Lucas Cranach the Elder. Make no mistake, this has nothing to do with the Renaissance Faire because David Koma is all about cutting-edge, with the emphasis on cutting.

The showcased collection was dominantly black with a few visits from electric violet, pale ivory and icy blue. The silhouette remained short while the focus was kept on the fit. Weather it was the body-hugging knee-length dress or a skater mini, the execution was certainly on point.

The spirit of Renaissance arrived in the form of high collars and tight waistlines that represented a modern interpretation of 15th century womanswear. Koma triumphed with glossy-leather detailing that was the final piece in his viciously chic collection.
