Dennis Diem’s FW 2014’s collection at Fashion Week Nederland

Dennis Diem fashion shows are commonly the ones that everybody seems to be gushing about. And the fall/winter 2014 show is no exception. Once again, Diem established his drama-king status at the Netherlands’ biggest fashion event.

The name of the collection is Opium dream and the inspiration comes from the motion of smoke. Indistinct, whimsical smoky shapes translated to a line-up of ultra-feminine attire: designer’s key pieces ranged from over-the-top tulle frocks to sleek silky gowns and elegant fitted dresses.

The emphasis was kept on Diem’s unsurpassed favorite, the corsets that gave the looks a fairytale kick. Another item that took us to the fairytale realm was the cape. It was Little Red Riding Hood revamped: shown in both light and dark hues, cashmere capes were the ones that certainly took the crown.

But it was that one particular accessory that took Diem’s princess to the dark side. The general public is familiar with Diem’s love for sky-high footwear that often results in models stumbling on the runway.

Therefore this year, the designer decided to address his infamous rep by sending his models on dangerously high glossy black strappy stilettos. This time, though, “the falls” were consequences of more than the laws of gravity. Diem hired models/dancers to intentionally fall only to put on an artistic performance – a series of movement that was definitely on the beat with the smoke inspiration.

And with that, the picture was complete – Diem’s girl is both tender and dangerous, a chameleon of it’s own kind.
