Vincenzo Lattanzio

Vincenzo Lattanzio was born in Triggiano, near Bari, in 1989. Growing up in a family working in the industry, he naturally developed a great passion for fashion, clothing and fabrics and, generally speaking, a strong interest in image. After taking his Secondary School Diploma in Scientific Studies, he moved to Milan to attend the three-year course in Fashion Design at IED Moda.

Graduating in July 2011, he started an internship at Gianfranco Ferrè as an assistant with the GF FERRÈ women’s wear collection, where he focused on knitwear and outerwear.

What factors made you choose IED over other design schools?
The reason that led me to choose IED is related to the impression of professionalism of teachers, the structure very accurate and a multifaceted and challenging environment.

What valuable lessons have you learned during your internship at Gianfranco Ferré?
During my internship at the fashion house “Gianfranco Ferre” I have greatly improved the design by hand, my technical knowledge and, in short, I grew to 360° with tutors available and great experience.

Your thesis project, Another Broken Wall, won IED’s My Own Show 2012. Where did you get the inspiration for the collection?
The inspiration for my thesis at the end of the course “Another Broken wall” is linked to the passion I have for the “PINK FLOYD”, a group that I heard as a child. The project starts from the opposition between the main character who is looking for his identity, Pink, and a system that is trying to force him to comply with the mass. This conflict led me to develop classical, austere lines that are then contaminated by a punk soul that shatters those same lines’ rigour by introducing a modern interpretation of the typical traits and methods of Italian craftsmanship.

What was the greatest challenge you faced while creating your thesis project?
The biggest challenge I faced was to combine both the construction of outerwear difficult, especially around the armholes, with a slim fit in the textile processes such as invasive agugliature.

How have your dreams evolved from your experiences at IED and with MOS?
Thanks to the contest “My Own Show” I realized one of my dreams, to collaborate with a large Company to create my own collection. For the future, I hope to carry on working to increase my skills in the fashion world.
