Design Week Music Festival

IED Milan has once again teamed up with elita festival to launch the seventh edition of the Design Week Music Festival – Work hard, party harder. The event was set up by the elita cultural association to promote cultural networking, especially in the music industry and across new forms of media. The Franco Parenti theatre will be the epicentre of the festival for the third year running, playing host to live music, conferences, debates and art exhibitions.

As part of the elita festival programme, IED Milan will be in charge of several projects related to sound design, involving IED Visual Communication students.

Elita Design Awards: launched last year by IED, Elita Festival, Fuorisalone.it and Future Concept lab, the event rewards particularly inventive and innovative companies whose talented designers and architects manage to create interesting displays that attract a more varied and international crowd than any other event in town. The upshot will be a more lively and vibrant Milanese cultural scene! A panel featuring representatives from elita festival, IED Milan, Fuorisalone.it and FUTURE CONCEPT LAB will roam Zona Tortona, Porta Romana Design, the Brera Design District, the Triennale and the historic city centre area in search of the best 15 displays.

A documentary-style video feature on each of the prize contestants will be recorded by IED students and presented at the awards ceremony, which is to be held at the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan on April 22nd.

WALK-IN MI: sound performance live by IED
On April 19th, 20th and 21st, at 7.30 pm, IED Sound Design students will take centre stage at the WALK-IN MI, a trip through the trademark sounds of Milan that you hear during Design Week. Movement, productions and fun: three of the highlights of Milan Design Week will be captured, sampled and transformed acoustically during a live performance mixing glitch hop, electronica, deep house and ambient.

April 19^th: WALK-IN MI will be MOVE-IN MI, moving in Milan / Production by Matteo Lo Valvo, Ludovico Schilling, Mattia Veronese

April 20^th: WALK-IN MI will be MAKE-IN MI, making in Milan / Production by Paolo Pacucci, Ludovico Shilling, Mattia Veronese

April 21^st: WALK-IN MI will be PLAY-IN MI, having fun in Milan / Production by Ilaria Bertuetti, Pietro Ferrari, Lorenzo Spagnolo

SOUND4
On Saturday, April 21st at 8pm IED and Elita will present Sound4. Thanks to the digital revolution, the field of applied sound has increasingly come under the microscope as a vehicle for creative expression. We’re talking about the sound of video games, electric cars, portable devices (the ever-present mobile phone ringtone included) and acoustic signals.

This is a huge area which has not yet been fully explored and which has great potential. It covers many different topics which are often considered as part of different disciplines, yet all have a common “contemporary” thread: design, sound manipulation, psychoacoustics, music and soundtracks.

The line-up is as follows: Sergio Messina, Steve Piccolo, Enrico Ascoli and Painè Cuadrelli
Special Guest: Matthew Herbert

Fuorisalone, part of the Milan Design Week, will conclude on Sunday April 22nd with the Sundaypark Special Design Week Closing Party. Promoted by elita, IED and Fuorisalone.it, the event promises to be a very special one and is open to everyone (kids too!). A particular highlight will be the “spazio extrasmall”, an exhibition featuring the work of young designers and curated by elita.
