Eyewear for the future
A few steps away from Piazza di Pietra in Rome there is an original concept store with a flair for cutting-edge design and playful creativity that makes it different from any other optical shop. Its name is Mondelliani and for the past five years it has established a fruitful relationship with IED Roma, based on the exchange of specific know-how.
In his classes, Federico Mondello, the owner of the store, makes his experience as a collector, retailer and producer of glasses available to IED students, indicating trends and possible themes to be developed.
For years, IED Roma has developed advanced research projects in the field of eyewear in the courses of Product Design, Jewellery and Accessories Design, paying particular attention to materials, technologies and styling features.
This partnership has brought about a number of collaborations, presentation events, exhibitions and publications. Mondelliani and IED present the results of this partnership with a project created by Giorgia Coderoni, a Junior Jewel Designer trained at IED Roma. The project consists in a pair of glasses designed by her and inspired by the visual effects of the film Tron Legacy.
Giorgia used bright “tech” colours in a project that draws inspiration from the lights of the digital world of the picture. The glossy black of the metal frame and the blue fluo used to “light up” both the borders of the lenses and the arm tips seem to evoke the futuristic motorcycles racing across the screen in the breathtaking scene of the fight between Good and Evil.
