Lero-Lero

Lero-Lero: a thesis project of Fashion Communication IED Rome

Former student in Fashion Communication at IED Roma, Julia Tartari presented last July Lero-Lero: the thesis project is a Brazilian style magazine that talks about the Brazilian past. It aims at appreciating the country’s artistic roots. A biannual magazine that every issue concentrates on a theme of the past and finds the seeds planted in the present.

She describes the concept of her entire work. «I believe that globalization caused us to loose interest and forget the roots of our culture, which lies pure in the past. I “…prophesies an interconnected world, but interested in spreading its particular cultures”, like the Canadian philosopher Marshall MacLuhan once wrote.

For the first issue I chose to talk about the movement Tropicália, due to the common values with the magazine. Their aim was to reinforce the Brazilian culture, and they also did it by analyzing the past, and inspiring themselves on it. Lero-Lero wants to go back to the past and build a bridge to the present, to be a reference of the artistic origins of the Brazilian culture. I decided to add a small pinch of irony to the title of the magazine by calling it Lero-Lero, which is an old school slang that means chitchat, small talk.»
