My Own Show 2012
Four young talents from IED to début at MIPAP
From 24 to 27 February, the curtain goes up on the latest edition of My Own Show, this year and for the very first time in the framework of MI Milano Prêt-à-Porter, the fair that showcases Italian fashion and up-and-coming new designers.
First launched in 2006, My Own Show is the international competition devised and organised by the Istituto Europeo di Design that every year selects the best newly-graduated students from the fashion courses in the IED network and brings them and their designs to début at Milano Moda Donna. This year’s winners in the Fashion Design category are Sante Bozzo, Vincenzo Lattanzio and Inés Vilagut, from the IED schools in Rome, Milan and Barcelona.
They are flanked by Francesca Lancia, winner of the Fashion Stylist category, who has just taken her diploma in Fashion Communication at the IED in Rome. Sante, Vincenzo, Inés and Francesca were chosen by a jury of experts in their field, chaired by Franca Sozzani, for the creativity and interdisciplinarity of their designs, for the research work done, combined with the finesse of the resulting elaborations, and for the marked coherence of their designs.
In the space devoted to the Mipap+ project, the area at MI Milano Prêt-à-Porter reserved for illustrating cases of synergy between creativity and industry, IED is presenting three capsule collections produced with the assistance of two prestigious Italian fashion houses: Falber-Moschillo and the Valentino Fashion Group. Both have been demonstrating their belief in the My Own Show project for years, flanking the young stylists and supporting them in making up their outfits. Just like Vogue.it, which continues its tradition of partnering with the winner in the Fashion Stylist category, supporting her as she creates her own publication project.
My Own Show makes a strong statement about the IED Network. This is where students from different countries, cultures and nationalities get the chance to meet, compare their experiences and working methods and get the measure of the market as they promote their ideas and talents.
My Own Show 2012: The Winners
Sante Bozzo – IED Roma, presents Camera, a collection of women’s clothing produced by the Valentino Fashion Group. Inspired by Francesca Woodman, the design starts from a study of an exaggerated form, deconstructing a man’s white shirt and layering fabrics so as to create the illusion of painting on a naked body.
Vincenzo Lattanzio – IED Milano, presents The Broken Wall, a collection of men’s clothing produced by Falber-Moschillo. What catches the eye about this line of suits is the contrast between the classical, austere lines and the way they are contaminated by a “punk” spirit that shatters those same lines’ rigour by introducing a modern interpretation of the typical traits and methods of Italian craftsmanship.
Inés Vilagut – IED Barcelona, presents Le noir est une couleur, a collection of men’s clothing produced by Falber-Moschillo. Based on a study of the colour black and of the body, this project makes a refined use of light and heavy fabrics, while its reliance on clean lines generates both opaque and transparent impressions, creating the effect of movement and dynamism in the clothing.
Francesca Lancia – IED Roma, presents Refugens, in partnership with Vogue.it, a publishing project designed to have both an online and a hard-copy version, accompanied by an annual featuring the leading fashion trends in passing seasons. Every month, this magazine will be guest-edited by a young up-and-coming artist in the area of styling, photography or illustration.
