Design and furniture have been together for so long, that now sometimes it’s hard to tell where the furniture ends and design object begins.
Student of Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design of Prague Vendulka Prchalová created a table, which is rather unusual. Her idea was to deform classic parts of the table to make it look as an animal in the motion. The term “locomotion” itself means the power of a living creature to move from one place to another.
This artistic table can be assembled specifically for each customer, so the number of variations is infinite. As the parts of the table are already prefabricated, customer can choose himself, which zoomorphic form he wants. Hence, there won’t be two identical tables, but the designer’s outline will be recognizable.
This artistic table is exhibited in DMY Berlin, which is the most important independent design event in Germany, under the label “New Talents” supported by IKEA Foundation.
As Vendulka says, the classic wooden table is her favourite furniture object and she got the idea of this table’s design after asking – if a table could run, would it run as a mantis or grasshopper?
