Illusory Metallic Shelf

metallic-shelf-dmitry-kozinenko-title_2 - Cover

Ukrainian designer Dmitry Kozinenko designed metallic shelving system called “Field”. This metallic shelf looks simple and minimal, but, most importantly – it creates an optical illusion, through the clever use of linear, geometric forms.

Standing in the front of shelf, it doesn’t look as a shelf at all – it looks like a flat grid of metallic lines. But looking from aside, ledges are visible – the metallic rods are bent and have depth, turning out to be shelves which can hold up the objects. Thus, playing with our perception and hiding the depth of the shelve, looks as if objects are just levitating mid-air in front of the metallic grid.

“Field” is practical and decorative at the same time. Its minimal design and transparent layout make this metallic shelf as a perfect design object in any contemporary living room. Plus, “Field” is available in different colours – black, white and gradient.

The Kiev-based designer loves to play with the idea of perception, designing unexpected objects, such as visually imbalanced tables or furniture series with an abstract shadow illusion. This time, he surprised everyone with this illusory metallic shelf. Let’s see what else he will create in the future!
