They are classic, yet modern. Nostalgic with the futuristic outline. Norwegian company “Northern Lighting” has presented their New 2016 collection of 5 elegant lightings: “Birdy”, “Buddy”, “Granny”, “Me” and “Oslo Wood”. The company has been established in Oslo 2005 and their designs are guided with Scandinavian simplicity and the ever-changing character of Nordic light.
A classic light “Birdy” has been designed by an award winning Norwegian designer Birger Dahl. This lamp has a mid-century design that was originally launched in 1952. However, its classic proportions and sleek shape give it timeless visual character.
An eye-catching “Buddy” lamp by Mads Sætter-Lassen was selected from among 130 entries. It’s a desk lamp with a multi-functional design, equipped with a holder to contain pens, pencils, keys or loose change. It will suit a variety of interiors and applications and is available in 4 different colours — dark grey, off-white, green and Marsala. This desk lamp can be very handy for those who most of their time spend working or studying using a desk with a classic design.
“Granny”? Let’s call it an elegant lady with a nostalgic mood (just because it’s my favourite). This lighting has been designed by Rudi Wulf and Northern Lighting is proud to present it as a part of their new collection. Granny lights up the interior in a very old-fashioned way, but isn’t that what we all want – a natural light without flipping the power switch? A contemporary take on the classic candlestick, Granny is designed with modern-day innovations that heighten its appeal. The base’s edges rise upwards to catch and contain melted wax before it drips onto the surrounding surface. The holder is made with a sliding brass knob that makes it easier to remove leftover wax and place a new candle inside. Granny is crafted in steel and brass, made in two heights and it’s available in matt black or matt white. A design of this lighting will suit the interior designs like a mid-century modern, industrial modern, contemporary chic/transitional interior design and, of course, Scandinavian.
“Me” is designed by Norwegian designers Morten Skjærpe Knarrum and Jonas Norhei – Morten & Jonas. The design of this lamp is quite simple and creates a very relaxing mood. The shape is uncomplicated and sleek, making it easy to incorporate the lamp into a wide range of settings. This lighting is available in a petrol blue, white or grey colours while its seamless silicone sleeve makes the lamp adjustable. The lamp is designed with a flexible stem that can be rotated and bent to customize the direction of the shade.
Oslo Wood’s creator is a designer, founder and CEO of Northern Lighting Ove Rogne. It’s been 10 since Northern Lighting produced its first design, and 9 since Ove Rogne’s award-winning Oslo Wood floor lamp has been launched. With its sleek contemporary profile, streamlined tripod base and multi-directional shade, it’s easy to see why Oslo Wood has become Northern Lighting’s best-selling design so far. Today, Northern Lighting launches two new editions of Oslo Wood to commemorate their ten-year anniversary. Both are made with the same shape and proportions as the original version. One tripod base has the faded lustre of antique gold while the other is electroplated shiny black.
Northern Lightning designs are very modern and contemporary, showing that it’s important to create lighting not only with appropriate good-looking design, but also make it as a very practical element of living with a timeless perspective that will never get old, but vintage.
