Drawing inspiration from Arthur C. Clarke’s Space Odyssey series and the subsequent Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey, Duffy London’s newest take on its Megalith table is a mind-boggling, futuristic creation.
Founded in 2002 by Christopher Duffy, a design graduate from the University of Brighton, Duffy London now performs its furniture-making wizardry in a studio located in east London. The designer isn’t afraid to playfully combine artistic and functional elements, while simultaneously exploring concepts of illusion and gravity, which is clearly evident in his newest creation – the Megalith Round Table. Made out of powder-coated mild steel, polished stainless steel and topped off with a toughened glass surface, the table combines dramatically contrasting materials to emphasize the illusion of its impending collapse. This 2016 round table is limited to 25 editions, which are available in three colour variations – black, white and red.
The eye-catching Megalith round table is available in two sizes – single and double – to perfectly fit any furniture design enthusiast’s space, making it a great conversation-starter or a simple reminder of Kubrick’s 1968 masterpiece.
