Multifaceted Handmade Table Lamp

Company Score and Solder is not only a brand, but is also exactly what Matthew Cleland is doing when he creates his multifaceted works, ranging from the terrariums, planters, decorative objects and table lamps. All his designs are based on cutting (scoring) sheet glass and quartz, fitting the resulting pieces together into 3-dimensional structures using lead-free solder. The technique is similar to the age-old technique for making real stained glass windows.

He works alone and his table lamp design is a handmade work to order and come in a variety of complex geometrical shapes. Cleland’s designs are fascinating as the macroscopic shapes of his table lamps are similar to how microscopic crystals fracture in nature. The choice of glass or quartz is essential for the appearance with colors — clear, lavender, blue or white and iridescent purple.  Some of the table lamps are made of reclaimed wood.

For most of his table lamps, Cleland recommends that Edison light bulbs should be used as the softer light from incandescent filaments is directly visible. For translucent lamps with, for example, white glass, fluorescent or LED bulbs can be used.

The table lamp has footprints from 19 to 25 cm in diameter and  ranging in height from 26 to 38 cm, and fitted with a 1.5 m mains cable.

Matthew Cleland initially  has learnt to work with stained glass from his father.
