Simple and dynamic — this wood chair made of two curved elements can be compared to an art of balance that tempts us to look at design as the matter of its usability.

Counterpoise is a plywood chair designed by Kaptura de Aer and that is comprised of two parts with dynamic shapes that balance each other. Each part separately would be unsteady while taken together they function as a steady-state system.

“For us, the greatest challenge till now has been the execution of our first chair design: Counterpoise. Thanks to Becker Romania, who kindly ‘adopted’ us for two entire weeks in their plywood factory, we had the opportunity to witness and to be involved in the process of chair making. At the end of this fruitful experience, we’ve fallen in love with the execution part of our profession,” explains the representative of Kaptura de Aer.

Company’s designs are intended to be defined mostly by what’s beyond their materiality, meaning that the shape is not a final goal but only a hint. Counterpoise chair’s texture and form, as well as the length are made to its owner to find his/her comfort zone while sitting.

The design of the wood chair shares an idea of the interplay between the balance and sensuous sitting experience.
