Kolding School of Design Graduation Exhibition 2013
1 exhibition, 52 designers and an 800 year old castle.
The frame that captures this year’s Kolding School of Design Graduation Exhibition is full of contrasts. Graduation 2013 comprises the graduation projects of more than fifty new designers and represents the culmination of five years of design studies. Framed by the past, the designers give us their take on the future.
The exhibition is a unique opportunity to experience the huge range of the design profession in the hands of a new generation; the future designers are craftsmen, theorists, aesthetes, data collectors, innovative and so much more. Yet most of all, the new designers are driven by a commitment and a vision to create a better world.
The young designers are a piece of litmus paper that is dipped into contemporary society; they take a bearing, interpret and transform their observations into concrete designs that help us understand the world.
The designers have created a dancing lamp, a new archelogical museum chair, a a fashion collection inspired by the romany, a memorable meal for nursing home residents, a tent bag for homeless people and urban campers, and a weaving system for the blind, just to mention a few of the projects. Put into categories what the new designers have done is create products, services and systems – in short anything that surrounds us now and in the future.
The new designers take their point of departure in individual fields of interest, different professional skills, and various views of the world and of design. Their projects are successfully completed in collaboration with companies, organisations, or public institutions and build on the artistic and aesthetic subject knowledge that defines Kolding School of Design.
In the words of Prorector Mette Mikkelsen:
‘The end result is a genuine contribution to the creation of a better world…’
The exhibition is curated by Designer Martin Born and is open from 26 June – 28 July 2013.
The Graduation Exhibition is funded by the following foundations: Augustinus Fonden, Tage Vanggaard og Hustrus Fond and Toyota Fonden.
