The cultural meetings at Istituto Europeo di Design
are going to start again
TALK in’ IED 2011, the series of cultural seminars, meetings and speeches about the complex creative world organized and promoted by IED Milano is going to start with a new edition. Four forums open to the city and hosting prestigious guests working in the cultural and design field will take place next week with meetings held every evening from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm, from 7th to 10th November.
Next Monday, the new series will be opened by Silvia Scopelliti’s speech entitled LOSING THE IMMUNITY. Redefining Responsible Business. Then the program includes: on 8th November, the meeting with the designer Fabio Verdelli, MEMORIES OF THE PRESENT. Our memories are kept alive in the everyday objects; on Wednesday 9th, Simone Perotti presents THE CHANGE IN THE ERA OF FEAR. Treasure-hunt without a map, while the meeting with Simone Muzza I EAT. Receipts and ingredients to develop a new critical sense will end the series on Thursday 10th.
TALK in’ IED is not only an occasion for meeting and discussion as it is included in Italia Contemporanea (Contemporary Italy), the five-year research programme launched last year by Istituto Europeo di Design that aims at developing a shared knowledge by starting from the Italian context and the needs of the territory in order to achieve a global vision of the contemporary phenomena.
Coordinated by IED Research Centre, the programme is developed thanks to the synergic collaboration between work teams composed by under-25 students attending the Schools of Design, Moda (Fashion), Visual Communication and Management Lab, and professionals working in the field. A research that has become multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary favoring and stimulating creativity and professional skills.
The programme of the meetings is shown here below:

Via Bezzecca, 5 / Classroom: B3
Silvia Scopelliti, External Affairs Expert

Recent crises demonstrate that the old model of doing business is broken. In a noisy, transparent world, where millions of people have made the choice to live “in public”, brands – especially those representing real icons – are held accountable for everything. What does “to be responsible” mean in such a complex and fast changing scenario? What can we expect from the future? In our conversation we will explore why we need a new story to define (responsible) business and will highlight the main drivers that are changing our world as we talk.
MEMORIES OF THE PRESENT. Our memories are kept alive in the everyday objects
8th November / from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm
Via Pietrasanta 14 / Classroom: Theoretical
Fabio Verdelli, Designer
The everyday objects, already used by the past generations, are often a means enabling to remember and share with other people some personal experiences in a common dimension. What will remain of the past decade? Which icons will be forgotten and why?
THE CHANGE IN THE ERA OF FEAR. Treasure-hunt without a map
9th November / from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm
Via Sciesa, 4 / Classroom: S10
Simone Perotti, writer and sailor
Stress, money, objects, rush? Or without a carrier, in silence, physical work and self-production? The Capitalism is at the end. The world changes and new regulations are required. However, politics and intellectuals do not help us. Everybody has to find his/her own way by hook or by crook. However, this is an extraordinary opportunity. A seminar aimed at understanding what and how and if it is necessary to give up, accept or change.
I EAT. Receipts and ingredients to develop a new critical sense
10th November / from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm
Via Sciesa, 4 / Classroom: S10

Food has always been a developing drive able to completely change the world culture and economics. Between those who struggle everyday to survive and those who have plenty of food, a new awareness arose: the consumer is able to change the scenarios with just a single decision.
