Description
Cities from all over the world are becoming visually similar, homogenized with similar building styles and highway systems. The commonality is development without creative thinking, and a universal goal of low costs and high profits. This kind of development increases the distance and disconnect between people. People move faster and faster as development grows faster and faster. Eventually, the question raised is whether development provides a better life for citizens, or if it only makes a country’s GDP look better.
Communication objective
The time-lapse video was designed to let an audience have the sense that every city in the world is becoming more and more similar. By giving it the title “CITY #3721″, the video represents just one city out of many cities all over the world that tend to be built the same way with the same style. In Hong Kong, the Cantonese have a saying, ” I don’t care 3721,” which means “I don’t care about anything and nothing can stop me. Just do it, no matter if it is right or wrong.” The name “CITY #3721″ reflects this double meaning.
