Pedro Pedro

A palette of colors ranging from royal blue to cinnamon to brick, with a touch of classic black and white, games of contrasts and contemporaneity. This is Pedro Pedro’s FW  collection showed at ModaLisboa.

Pedro is a Portuguese designer based in Oporto; he studied at Academia de Moda do Porto and in 1996 he began his professional career in fashion by winning the 1st prize in the “New Expo-Wear Designers” competition the same year. The label Pedro Pedro was created in 1998, and after presenting his works exclusively at Portuguese events, in 2006 and 2007 Pedro started presenting his designs at Paris Fashion Week.

‘Urban Mix’ is, as two sides of the same coin, a perfect match of couture and workwear. It is exactly from there, from work clothes, that the designer took inspiration for this collection to get to an utterly wearable look that is superbly feminine and urban at the same time. It’s all a game of contrasts that leaves room for experimentation, the choice of mixing the pieces leads always to something halfway between the classic and the modern. Tweeds and brocades meet technological finishes and earn lacquered and rubberized weaves. Silk meets photographic prints enhancing the contemporary look, as well as the profusion of metallic zips and laces.

The lengths of the skirts and jackets remain well above the knee, but a bit oversized to maintain the looseness of workwear.  Bags become colored knapsacks, perfect for the daytime, and turn to sublime black pochettes at night.

The woman seen through Pedro Pedro’s eyes is a woman who loves comfort and seeks protection in her clothes, but without the minimum sacrifice of elegance and sophistication.
