“Xenology” by Jesse Tise – ADAA Finalist
Biography
Pasadena-based illustrator, Jesse Tise, imagines the most fantastical worlds inhabited by strange flora, fauna and freaks. When not pursuing a BFA degree in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design, or a career in freelance illustration, Jesse remains busy by painting and drawing, printmaking, writing and illustrating new books – and playing a constant game of tug-o-war with his black Giant Schnauzer, Samson.
Description
Mixed Media – brush, ink, and digital. Xenology is a part of a larger set of illustrations, of alien flora and fauna.
Communication objective
Combining brush, ink, and digital tools, these illustrations explore theoretical forms of alien flora and fauna, as part of a larger series. Adobe Photoshop was used to create extraordinary illustrative pieces with a unique, handmade quality and aesthetic, by using a digital toolset. Scanned line art, drawn with a brush and ink, and scanned textures were brought together, then tweaked, colored, and placed into order, to assemble the final illustration. The entire body of work was also compiled together into a book.
Tools used
For creating extraordinary illustrations, Adobe Photoshop allows me to create pieces with a unique, handmade quality and aethetic using a digital toolset. Using scanned line art drawn with a brush and ink, as well as a plethora of scanned texures, I bring all of these separate elements together in Photoshop, where they are tweaked and colored and placed properly in order to assemble the final illustration.
