Peugeot Onyx Concept

Peugeot Onyx Concept - Cover

The Onyx concept car is the new supercar made by Peugeot and presented at Paris Motor Show 2012.
Built using raw materials innovatively, this supercar has been especially thought and created by enthusiasts inspired by the world of racing. With its mid-mounted V8 engine, Onyx offers high performance controlled at all times through a cockpit with intuitive instrumentation and controls.
The first things that immediately characterize the car are the body form, sharp with a contrast of materials and colours, and a real attention to detail. The wings and doors are handcrafted by a master craftsman from a single sheet of pure copper. Other body panels are formed in carbon, and painted matt black. On the back it is possible to find the tail-lights, which show the three-claw light signature characteristic of Peugeot.

The car is 4.65m long with a weight of just 1,100kg and with a TV8 hybrid HDi FAP 3.7-litre engine, able to transmit its 600bhp to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The doors provide easy access to the interior through a sophisticated Pantographic mechanism design with two movements.

The same attention for design and for materials choice can be found also in the interior. The cockpit is made of felt, compressed and stretched, and then modelled with no seams or joins. Also the dashboard is constructed with an innovative material, named ‘Newspaper Wood’ and produced from used newspapers, assembled and compressed.

The carbon structure combined with the felt surface creates a protective environment around its occupants, that integrates all the features usually performed by individual components, such as soundproofing, floor, high console, roof and bucket seats.
Integrated into the dashboard facing the passenger, there is a tablet device providing an interface for the car infotainment. The same philosophy has been applied to a concept scooter and bike, which are always named Onyx.
