Flying hovercraft bike by Aerofex

When we think to a space flying vehicle, our imagination takes us immediately to iconic scenes coming from sci-fi movies. But, 20 years later, something that was deemed to be just a fantasy has come true.

The California-based engineering company Aerofex has, in fact, conceived a “flying bike”, inspired by the vehicles featured in George Lucas movie series Star Wars. The aerial vehicle originates from a design abandoned in the 1960's because of stability and rollover problems, that now Aerofex fixed by creating a mechanical system, controlled by two control bars at knee-level, allowing the vehicle to respond to human movements.

The vehicle has been thought to be used by people without pilot license, like physicians that, thanks to this new mean of transport, can reach patients located in places not reachable through roads.Furthermore, the flying bike has been designed so that all of the operations happen mechanically without the need of any electronics or artificial intelligence.

The vehicle is still going through testing phases and, for the moment, the manufacturer limits the attainable height to 15 feet and speed to approximately 30mph.
