Shane Devries is a twenty-seven year-old Australian artist who is poised to make big waves in the art world—and chances are, you might already be familiar with his work. With a background as an illustrator and storyboard designer for Showpony Advertising, Devries has since expanded his oeuvre, capturing the attention of an audience that ranges from publishing houses to skateboarders to musicians.
It is a testament to Devries’ talent that his signature whimsical, vibrant style can seem perfectly suited for both the children’s picture book The Lion Sleeps Tonight as well as to the gnarly skateboard decks he designed for Paperhorse Studios’ “Pipe Up” group show. In addition to illustrating and painting, he also created the haunting animations for the music video “Sometimes the Stars,” by the band The Audreys. His art translated beautifully to the big screen, where it was shown as part of the British Film Institute’s annual BUG: Evolution of Music Video event. With such wide range, it is anyone’s guess where Shane Devries’ artwork may appear next, so keep your eyes open—this is definitely someone to watch.
