Avid readers who cling to the book as an endearing physical object will find in this novel book table a functional companion to the cozy hours of the day.

Buchtisch is a multi-functional piece of furniture, carefully tending to both the practical and emotional needs of its users and it is brought to us from German design duo Studio Voigt Dietrich. Hailing from Potsdam, Sebastian Voigt and Franz Dietrich, class of 1984, hold a BA in Product Design from FH Potsdam and have started their studio in 2011.

Made in MDF and beech, the small table is simple yet sophisticated, with clear lines and an elegant contrast between the black surface and the light texture of the wood. This minimalist quality is coupled with an aura of comfort and relax, which add to the value of the design.

A conversation piece in its own right, Buchtisch takes an innovative approach to the book table. It is in fact unexpectedly diamond-shaped, thus departing from the more typical flat level horizontal surface.

In this respect, form does indeed follow function. This unusual but ingenious shape allows for a void space where to store books, its tilted position integrating bookend functionality.  Also, it effortlessly doubles as a larger version of a bookmark to be placed in one’s favorite reading spot. The reader need simply place an open book upside down at its peak to signal her current read or prompt her to reach for a favorite novel, this way replicating the display function which is an homage to the book as a tangible reservoir of the printed word. On one side of it, one still finds a small even surface with enough space to place a few useful items: reading glasses, a pencil for scribbling notes but also the coffee or wine which so often complement the optimal reading experience, building a narrative of coziness and warmth around an otherwise simple and linear object.

On a final note, the choice of beech wood as material is a curious and interesting one. It is in fact from the Old English word for beech, bōc, that the modern term for book derives. The German word for it is Buch with Buche meaning beech tree, and one cannot but appreciate this very appropriate correspondence.

Produced and distributed through Rejon, from which it can pre-ordered by email,  the studio set out to begin a small series of the newly launched Buchtisch, which is at the moment only available in black.

The Watson table is named after James Watson, the American scientist famous for discovering the helical structure of DNA. I felt like a scientist developing this table, working through numerous controlled material experiments to achieve the desired result. The closer I came to the solution, the simpler the experiments became, and the final result is a wood-composite structure laminated over a simple 6-part plywood mold.

The form is inspired by English furniture of the late 1600′s, with its distinctive open wood turnings, sometimes called ‘barley twists’. I was interested in translating these twisting shapes into bold structural elements, for the purpose of experimenting with new combinations of materials and construction processes.

To use materials as efficiently as possible I abandoned a machining-based approach in favor of an ‘additive’ lamination process. I began to experiment with composite materials to give structural support to this naturally ‘springy’ form; the result is a combination of wood and carbon fiber, with a painted wood top. This composite ‘sandwich’ utilizes the inherent rigidity of carbon as a structural core, creating a symbiotic composition providing a maximum of strength using a minimum of material.

Bath Infinity is a new level of comfort , enjoyment and relaxation. Technology and materials used in the design of Infinity allowed to leave it to the next level and become the next stage in the evolution of leisure and pleasure. Fullness sensation is achieved by means of effects on all organs of the human senses through scents, music, touch and visual images.

Infinity is created from water and helps to plunge into the relaxation process.  Infinity has a remote control that allows an individual to approach the process of bathing, which helps to relax selecting the appropriate mode using the mini-computer mounted on the side panel through which can easily adjust the water temperature, feed rate, modes of hydro-massage jets, select music, choose oil or perfume for aromatherapy. Remote connected to the Internet and intelligent home system, through which you can pre-enable the desired mode.

Infinity is equipped with a mini-computer control system of innovation to this never used in the bathrooms – the system consists of a removable cartridge with the various components (components may vary from pine oils to sea salt, or perfume), cartridges may be purchased in specialty stores with products for bath.

Infinity best conveys the properties of the newest and unique material Duralight – material, opening new possibilities for creating harmonious and pleasing lines, simple in its understanding, helping to fully experience the dynamics of water and feel its infinite movement. High backs allow the bath to achieve complete isolation.

Bathroom is equipped with concealed valves for silent set of water, the absence of extraneous sounds achieved by dripping water on the walls of the bath. Valves are placed on the walls of the bath with two sides, which helps distribute the water flows more evenly.

At the outer casing baths can be implemented in various ornaments perforation. A good marketing ploy luxury segment data baths can be custom manufacture bath with original and exclusive ornaments, technical characteristics of this material allows it to mill and to obtain unusual design solutions for any bathroom. Also inside the device is expected lighting, which could add relaxing atmosphere in the evening through the game highlights on the surfaces of bathrooms, through the perforated holes. With a centralized source of light, the ornament will be more complicated in the perspective.

Stellavie, a design manufacturer from Germany, uses unconventional materials for creating a unique light experience. Exclusive fine paper is employed for the outer lampshade, cast acrylic for the tailored mounting, and polystyrene is used as a light-diffusing inlay shade.

The large number of entirely self developed lampshades comes perfectly customized, from construction to design and carefully chosen patters. Inspiration arises from classic calligraphy, embroidery or even  seductive detailed lace. One, being more exuberant, can opt for a swarm of beautiful butterflies or create a more vibrant atmosphere with a city skyline hitting the beat of its nightclubs. Playing with colors, the result shall exceed all typical expectation for a particular light encounter.

The love for the details and surprising ideas make these beautifully textured pieces of paper elegant and opulent. Combining new and old, the contrasting directions undertaken by these German graphic designers drives us to use the sintagma “pixel baroque” to best describe their pattern.

For centuries together wood has been at the centre of mankind’s existence, taking on various forms for differing purposes. Having stated the obvious, a look at Joseph Walsh’s latest creation provides a new perspective for this material. The ‘Enignum Canopy Bed’ seamlessly brings out the characteristics of wood that are ever present but often hidden in its mass usage. A self taught designer, who learnt from hands on experience, Walsh founded his studio, Co Cork, in 1999 and today is a mainstay at many of the world’s top interior exhibitions and museums.

The ‘Canopy Bed’ is another limb of his ‘Formations’ collection. The design is the consequence of his quest to collaborate with the environment to create innovative products that maintain the grandiose in nature. This particular piece exudes all the qualities of wood; flexibility, strength and unparalleled texture. Walsh opted to strip the wood down into thin layers, maximizing its natural elasticity. A free flowing design exempt of rigid edges ensured that each of the aforementioned merits was personified. The final design invites the user into an oasis of nature; indoors.

Nature has always been an inspiration for creative minds. A Japanese designer who calls himself “Nosigner” makes no exception. Inspired by the perfect shape of minerals, he designed Hex – a sofa that resembles a hexagonal single-crystal.

Nosigner has cleverly wrapped his creation in plywood, which envelops the lower part of the seat and covers the side edges. Hex not only looks amazing, but also gets built-in mini-tables that can be used for putting cups, for example.
