On this week’s Copenhagen design fair – Design Trade – the public had the opportunity to experience the new brand Skandinavisk. The industrial design brand translates the Scandinavian key concept of hygge, which may be translated into cosiness, in its products for the home.
With their clean lines and no-nonsense expression the Skandinavisk scented candles, cups, and plates clearly subscribe to the region’s design heritage of simplicity and unambiguousness. But they seem to have more at heart than simply prolonging the tradition. As the founder, Shaun Russell, explains: “Being a Brit with a twelve-year history in Denmark, it seems quite obvious to me, that the Danish status as world’s happiest people is closely connected to their ability to create a nice moment – together. The concept of hygge and the tradition with candles and hot drinks are shared by the other Scandinavian countries, and that’s why have included symbols, Scandinavian letters and inspiration from the entire region in our design.”
The range of sensory design products bridge the outdoor experience to the indoor life of the present season by names and fragrances. Design as a bridge builder across nations and across seasons.
