    An exhibition for stylish and innovative design lightings, DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014 took  place in a great success from January 15th to 17th, 2014 at Tokyo Big Sight. Launching new events and  enriching the content, the number of exhibitors doubled from the previous show, also joined by  European exhibitors. 
    DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014 served as a unique platform to present design lightings which  realize more comfortable environment and creative space design.

    As a business platform in the Japanese & Asian market 
    Gathering 14,322* visitors from lighting fixture users (architectural design firms, commercial facility,  general contractors, etc.), buyers (interior shops, department stores, importer/exporter, etc.) and so on, DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014 generated huge business opportunities for exhibitors. 
    Held in the Asia’s trend-setting city - Tokyo, the show gathered high quality visitors not only from 
    Japan but also from other Asian countries.  As you can see in the following comments, exhibitors achieved highly successful results and  satisfaction with business opportunities at DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014 was very high.

    <WOW LED LIGHTING> 
    During the show period, we met around 1,000 visitors from different professions and received many valuable comments. 

    We also met some media and had chance to show our brand concept and design via their platform. Though it was our first time to attend overseas exhibition, DESIGN LIGHTIG TOKYO was a positive opportunity for us and we are very satisfied with its result.

    <TOYO CERAMICS> 
    We showcased Arita Pendant Light and gathered 480 visitors and grabbed the business chances with  wide range of customers. Expected sales amount is more than USD 60,000, which satisfies us very much. Therefore, we keep exhibiting at DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO. 

    <NEXT> 
    We exhibited pendant light, foot light, stand light, OLED lightings, etc. 1,500 visitors came to our booth and we had a number of concrete discussions with them. We expect business with hotel-design firm, autonomy, distributor, etc. Total expected amount can be up to USD 300,000 - 400,000. 

    <BLUEWAVE YAMAGUCHI> 
    We showcased LED lighting and ODM service to 600 visitors such as designers, architects, professionals  from building industry. 
    We expect approx. USD 700,000 from 25 inquiries obtained at DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO.

    As a showcase of latest lighting designs featuring LED/OLED lighting technologies
    With the development of LED/OLED lighting and other advanced lighting technologies, more flexible lighting designs and wider range of atmosphere designs are enabled. Co-held with the key shows for
    LED/OLED lighting manufacturing technologies and fixtures – LED/OLED Technology Expo and LED/OLED Light Expo, DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO has huge strength in collecting design lightings featuring LED/OLED lighting. Especially from the OLED lighting category, leading companies such as PANASONIC IDEMITSU OLED LIGHTING, PHILIPS ELECTRONICS and LUMIOTEC  exhibited stylish OLED lighting fixtures, considering DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO as the best  opportunity to expand their sales by presenting many advantages of their cutting-edge OLED  lighting technologies, such as more flexible design possibility, comfort and user-friendliness.
    Not only as the showcase of innovative designs, DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014 was appreciated  also as the best platform to explore new possibilities of LED/OLED lightings.

    As a hub of latest trends
    Along with the exhibition, co-held Design Seminars attracted a large attention from the industry and played a role in enhancing the show’s position as the hub of latest trends. Among 18 seminars spoken by celebrated architects, lighting designers, lighting fixture users, retailers, etc., the Special Session was the most popular. It featured Ms. Kazuyo Sejima, world-class architect as a speaker, who was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2010. Her main works include The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa*, The New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York*, The Rolex Learning Center*, Inujima “Art House Project" and the Louvre Lens*. (*=collaboration with Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa/ SANAA)

    Featured events inside DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014

    BRIDGE
    Special installation “BRIDGE” (new this year) showcased a selected collection of simple, stylish and 4

    “NEXT” products by European lighting brands that had not been launched in Japan. Also enriched with the space design by a Japanese well-known architect Akihisa Hirata, the installation became one of the features of the 2014 show. The selected products included ones by world-famous
    designers/architects such as Karim Rashid and Zaha Hadid.
    Showcasing the latest European designs in Tokyo, it acted as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

    PROTO LIGHTING
    Showcasing distinguished prototype lightings, it served as a premium meeting place with designers to seek collaboration such as commercialization and outsource of the design. 

    Combining untraditional materials or cutting-edge technologies with innovative shapes and design, those prototypes explored new possibilities of design lightings.

    Next show:
    DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2015 aims to be larger and more international
    The next show will take place from January 14th to 16th, 2015 at Tokyo Big Sight.
    DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2015 aims to expand the scale again (110 exhibitors and 16,000 visitors) and become more international.

  • 15/01/2014 - Orchid by Hiroki Takada

    This lamp is an orchid motif. Each petal is the light source. This work won the Award 100% in the Tokyo Designer's Week 2008, it has been selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York in 2010.

    Hiroki Takada said about it: "I want to make people impressed. And, I also want to be impressed. I want to do a new thing. I want to see a beautiful thing. I want to make the thing that time can be exceeded."

    At coming DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014 (January 15-17, 2014 at Tokyo Big Sight), one of the features will be the special installation “BRIDGE”.

    In a sophisticated atmosphere supervised by the globally well-known architect Akihisa Hirata, you can enjoy a selected collection of simple, stylish and “NEXT” products by European lighting brands that have not been launched in Japan.

    Showcasing the latest European designs in the trend-setting city in Asia - Tokyo, it will act as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

    An international exhibition for stylish design lightings, “DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO 2014” is announcing a series of new projects which make the show more attractive as the hub of the cutting-edge designs and innovative products.

    Special Events:

    * BRIDGE
    Special installation “BRIDGE” is a selected collection of simple, stylish and “NEXT” products by European lighting brands that have not been launched in Japan. Japanese well-known architect Akihisa Hirata will select the products and supervise the installation design. Showcasing the latest European designs in Tokyo, it will act as a BRIDGE between Europe and Asia.

    * NEXT LIGHTING
    NEXT LIGHTING is a special exhibit area for newly-launched manufacturers and designers to present new design lightings. To open the gate to wider range of lighting manufacturers/designers, trial package plan is offered with more affordable price. More than 100 products are expected to be presented here.

    * PROTO LIGHTING
    At PROTO LIGHTING, designers showcase their distinguished prototype lightings. You can showcase/find innovative prototypes combining lighting and untraditional materials/design often using LED/OLED lighting and other new lighting technologies. Here is the venue to collaborate with designers for commercializing products, outsourcing designs, etc.

    * DESIGN SEMINAR
    Inviting high-profile designers and architects as speakers, DESIGN SEMINAR will offer you the prime opportunity to learn the latest trends and cases from the celebrated design projects.

    * SPECIAL SESSION "Hikari: An Element of Architecture -Light and Lighting"
    Kazuyo Sejima, winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, also known as the Novel Prize of architecture, will speak at DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from the world-class architect who has been working on many celebrated architectural projects including Louvre-Lens.

Design Lighting Tokyo Tokio - Japan

DESIGN LIGHTING TOKYO is part of the world’s leading exhibition & conference for LED/OLED lighting LIGHTING JAPAN.
