Pets are human’s best friends, and we have been sharing our living environment with these animals for millenniums. As trendiness has become significant characteristic of our living space, now it is time to make stylish not only everyday objects meant for us, but also the ones used by our cute friends.
Apparently, pets can sleep almost everywhere as long as they are not disturbed, but now there is something, which might seem more appealing for them and their owners as well. Young Belgian designer Geerke Sticker has taken notion “concrete” to the next level, using ultra high strong concrete (UHCT) to make this pet bed not only trendy and stylish, but also extremely strong, thus combining good looks, strong surface and cosiness. It is made from two mirrored parts in a bowl shape and put on three wooden legs, so this seemingly heavy object can be easily moved around.
This concrete pet bed is made for Belgian industrial design company “Dils & Mander”. It has been exploring UHCT over 5 years in order to bring this material closer to our homes, using it to make objects of everyday use, for example, sinks or bowls. The possibilities and advantages of concrete are endless, such as strength, durability, surface resistance and colour variations.
Certainly, animals cannot really appreciate the fashionable side of their favourite sleeping spot, but their owners undoubtedly will. However, the winners are both, as animals will have their personal space and their owners – an original and useful design object. In addition, pet owners will be sure that their loved animals are safe and sound, because concrete is almost unbreakable – at least by the cute paws of our little friends.
