Inspired by the above-mentioned hunting trophy and decorative element, the Marnin wall lamp is designed by Matteo Ugolini for the Italian manufacturer Karman. Made out of white matte ceramic, the ironic lamp plays on the “Rudolph” system and represents a puppet-like deer whose nose works as light source.
Its cute shape, fairy tale crochet details and finishing make us reconsider the archetypal image of the wall-framed animal heads and all the related tales; and create a more playful, animal friendly and happy perception of the overall picture. Marnin reconnects us to our childhood on two different levels: first as it’s an icon that recalls our past, second as this icon has a new protagonist, and this is clearly a children toy.
The wall lamp also decontextualizes the objects as it changes a lot of key elements: the shape, the colours, the finishing, its function and its usage. The decorative trophy is now a lamp and doesn’t fit in mountain traditional cottages but also in your new modern apartment in the city.
