Spanish dreamers' team, (fos), meaning light in Greek and melted in Catalan, proposes a fascinating new street art concept. The three musketeers behind the recent bright colour pop on Lope de Vega street in Madrid, Eleni Karpatsi, Susana Piquerand Julio Calvo, come from a strong artistic background, working in architecture and design-related fields. Possessors of an effervescent mind and a restless imagination, they decided to break free from the rigors of perfectly calculated planes, rigid volumes and boring textures, conceiving something just for the sake of pure fun.
Their spontaneous irreverence manifested in the form of an eponymous - (fos) -, unusual art installation, if you may. The trio departed from the good old English saying, ‘paint the town blue’, and set off to tape the city in yellow, instead! Geared up with more than 250m of bright yellow tape, few yellow accessories, an old fashioned, super chic lamp, and a bunch of classy, yet totally out of context pineapples, they went about giving a face lift to one of the ratty-grey streets of Madrid.
(fos) ephemeral installation was a pop-up lasting 4 days and 4 nights, not more. However, it was enough to brighten up the day of many. During this time, passers-by of the vegan restaurant could witness an unusual setting: a large yellow triangle was now covering a part of the restaurant’s facade, with the yellow tape cutting mercilessly across planes, surfaces and afferent decorative objects - painting, chair and lamp included. Some caught the meaning behind the scene, and understood that the yellow colour splash was actually carefully designed, constructed and displayed so as to resemble a golden light beam illuminating blissfully the few squared meters. For others, it just seemed like a questionable act of rebellion. We loved it!
