With formal training from The Einar Granum School of Art, and The Academy of Arts in Oslo, Norway, Esra Roise is a freelance illustrator focused on everyday images inspired by solitary moments.
Her portraits of tattooed men and women in what seem to be very thin white t-shirts are, in their simplicity, very alive. Her careful shading choices and bold spots of color bring movement and definite character to her subjects. She combines familiar images: friends laughing together, a pair of penny loafers, used concave cosmetic products, with abstract splashes of color and textures that become crucial components of the overall image. A diluted stroke of watercolor becomes a dress - a splatter of red behind a profile becomes a blast of energy. The dichotomy of the everyday and the otherworldly makes Roise's images especially intriguing.
Her commissioned works loose none of the youthful, buoyant integrity of her personal pieces, and it is no wonder that her clients include VOGUE China, Nylon Magazine, Glamour, VICE - the list goes on. Signed and numbered prints of her beautiful designs, along with tees and other items are available on her website, so her illustrations can be enjoyed in your own everyday life.
