Autostadt Roof and Service Pavilion

Autostadt Roof and Service Pavilion - Cover
The  car company wanted to get a quiet area where to make its buyers choose a new car and get familiar with its features in a private and elegant atmosphere. At the same time there were two foundamental needs: 1) to protect the area from rainfall and direct sunlight; and 2) to allow enough natural light to avoid useless usage of expensive artificial electricity.

GRAFT's ingenious idea has been to design the roof as a horizontal leaf that protects the landscape underneath with its organic shape. Thanks to a special static principle the structure rests in just two points defining a clear and repaired room. The elegant geometry of this natural shape forms a bridge between sky and landscape, a bridge which becomes part of the environment thanks to its curvature and limpidness.

Associated to the roof there is a service pavillon which fulfills different functions: it's an information desk and also a place where clients can purchase accessories. This building is  integrated into the design of the roof to give a sense of continuity with the structure as a whole.
