National Library of Sejong City

S.A.M.O.O, a South Korean based architecture and engineering firm, designed the first regional branch library of the National Library of Korea in Sejong City. Being not only built for research-orientated work but also for the enjoyment of the inhabitants of the city, this impressive building basically adds value for everyone.
Based on a three-strategy concept of “emotional shape, emotional space and emotional experience” the architects successfully translated this concept into the shape of library as well as its floor planning. The overall shape of the library very much resembles an overturned book page, adding a smooth touch to the 21,076-square-meter (226,860-square-foot) big structure. The exclusively glass-panelled front side provides for lots of natural light and an amazing view to the pedestrian plaza and the “book themed park”, yet to be built.
Likewise, the inside is arranged in a generous way; the first and second floor have huge open layouts designed for reading, studying and relaxing while the third floor provides for conferences and seminars. On the very top of the building, the fourth floor, the probably most impressing part can be found - a restaurant and rooftop lounge even featuring a little garden.
At the end of 2013 the impressive architecture will be set open providing for an iconic library, event space as well as a new piece of art and culture added to the dynamic city of Sejong.
