The building, which was presented at the beginning of October at the Inside Festivalin Singapore, had to be designed and constructed simultaneously to be ready in time to host last year's Eurovision Song Contest. The project took only eight months to be design and constructed. Designers- GMP Architekten, collaborated with the contractors Alpine Bau Deutschland and Nüssli through the entire process to increase the overall speed and efficiency.
The Baku Crystal Hall located in Azerbaijan was designed with a faceted modular structure, covered with 9500 LED lights. The characteristic crystalline shape of the building and its illuminated façade was the response to Azerbaijan’s special request for the creation of a widely visible and visually effective landmark as a bridge between Asia and Europe.
Made both as a concert hall and as a sports stadium, the structure can host more than 25000 seated visitors.
According to Nussli's Claus Kruppa, it was originally planned as a temporary structure, but was subtly altered during construction to enable it to remain in place for longer. "A small change in the drawings, and now it's going to be there for 30-40 years," he said.
