Issam Fares Institute by Zaha Hadid Architects

Issam Fares Institute by Zaha Hadid Architects - Cover

The latest, outstanding release by Zaha Hadid Architects is a breathtaking, unique building in Beirut. Conceived as a cultural meeting spot, the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) has been built up as a stimulus to the research of the Arabic traditions, as the cradle of great ideals and values.

The idea behind the building was the exchange of opinions: this amazing masterpiece was generated as a dynamic, neutral, universal open space, offered to any kind of people, to exchange ideas and debate on relevant contemporary issues. The structure fairly respects this noble conception: as a matter of fact, the institute is opened to visitors via many different connections and paths, and it is all about convergences among platforms and floors.

A ramp leads throughout the complex roots and trees, and connects the wide and spacious study lounges on the second floor with the campus. The first floor seminar room and offices are, instead, linked to the east and public courtyard to the west.

This labyrinth is an endless crossroad of paths and routes, symbolizing the high value of the institute itself: a core of culture, a refuge for students, researchers and visitors. The architectural style explicate a massive tension towards the future of the authors: the walls, the windows, the paths, everything seems to move. Dynamism is with no doubt the leading mantra of this place.

If you come to the Beirut, do not miss the chance to admire and get inspiration of this cultural masterpiece: architecture is only a part of this wonder, ideals truly make it up.
