Ulyana Sergeenko

Last spring I had the chance to attend the two major Russian fashion weeks and to dive into eastern culture, tradition and creativity.
Yet, I had to wait till Paris haute couture in July to find what I was looking for while in Moscow and St Petersburg.
Ulyana Sergeenko is a Russian couture collector, photographer and street-style star, former a model and then turned designer when a couple of years ago decided to launch her haute couture collection.
Her last proposal speaks the clear language of her ancient tradition, (re-)giving life to tsarinas and middle-age princesses, priests and fairy tale characters.
High-waisted dresses and ruffled necks: the inspiration is clearly Gothic, with a romantic and austere twist conferred by details as the wide balloon sleeve and the use of colors.
Over-the-knee boots, crystal earrings and ball gowns are nothing but variations on the theme of the most typical Russian drama.
