Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang - Cover

As one of the most anticipated collections in New York, Alexander Wang’s F/W collection did nothing less than impress. Heralded as the “golden boy of fashion and “21st century prodigy”, Wang has demonstrated a remarkable form of creative genius by seemingly splitting himself into two personas: Alexander, the patron saint of New York “cool”, and Alexander, the creative director of Balenciaga.

Entwining his logo into jacquards, leather and lace either by laser-cuts or printing has been proven to be a clever and amusing move rather than smug; and un-buttoned button-downs matched with leggy looks added that extra-cheekiness to the overall collection. Undoubtedly, the majority of the looks echoed an androgynous feel (enter the oversized utility jackets and hybrid Bermuda shorts), however girlie-girls will find something to their liking too: high-waisted, pleated school-girl skirts and baby-doll spaghetti-strap dresses with soft peplums.

For his eponymous label, the fresh faced designer made live and online audiences fall in love with the fun, adventurous side of fashion that has been slowly seeping away from the stylistic archives of the 90’s.  In a sentence, the collection was a striking balance between bold logos and cuts, and soft textures and colors resulting in a witty smorgasbord of eye-catching pieces many a street-stylers would break the bank for.
