Moon Young Hee

The name is Moon Young Hee, and if you haven’t come across the name yet, you certainly will. After showcasing her spring ’14 collection at Paris Fashion Week, Hee had the fashionistas chattering about her designs. And on a different side of the globe, the collection seems to be getting an equal amount of buzz on this year’s Seoul Fashion Week as well.
“Be comfortable in what you’re wearing.” – that was Hee’s essential idea for this year’s collection. And in the spirit of comfort and ease, the designer ditched the good ol’ heels as well as the bling. She said no to the big, heavy structures and dramatic eye make-up and went back to the basics. But, make no mistake - there is nothing basic about the work of Hee.
Ever faithful to her idea of deconstruction, the Korean designer has once again put together a collection of clothes that are fashion-forward but at the same time, streetstyle-ready. Hee crafted the silhouette by layering translucent materials – the cotton candy forms contrasted the opaque pieces and made every ensemble feel light as a feather. Asymmetrical cuts added dynamics to the collection, while the often sketchy and raw trimmings gave it edge. Hee kept the palette mainly muted with a few pops of electric blue and shimmery gold. With laid-back hair, au naturel make-up and black lace-up sneaks the looks were given a sporty and easygoing finish that fits perfectly into Hee’s lightweight couture paradigm.
