Julia Winkler is a young talent from Zurich who graduated just a couple of years ago from Esmod International University of Art For Fashion Berlin and is now based in London. Since the very first steps of her career, she has been well known for her attitude towards experimentalism and innovativeness.
Her FW 14 collection sure is a great deal of experimentalism. As a matter of fact, what this young girl has done is impressive and visually powerful. The mere name of the collection is a statement: UTQC draws inspiration from the album Until the Quiet Comes, by the electro-music producer Flying Lotus. Psychedelic music is only the starting point of this collection, since every garment is all about optical illusions and dream-like shapes. Elegance is re-elaborated in a visionary mood, and stripes are the leading optical tool, almost distorting hyper-classy trousers and blazers.
The favourite materials used are marrocaine, raso and Spanish tornasol, along with cotton fabrics. Notable sophistication is generated by the light raso, while a low-profile mood is contributed by the usage of dark violet, grey, black and blue. The most interesting trait of the collection is the constant search for the diversity, that is a re-elaboration of pre-conceptual elegance: the de-structured blazer is pure genius, almost like it was stolen from a Tim Burton movie. Everything is decomposed. Still, search for minimal elegance is a must.
Julia Winkler’s FW 14 collection is an interesting deviation from traditional charm: with no doubt at all, modernist fashion addicts will just love it.
