The latest collection by Kucherenko was the most impressive of the AW14 Belarus Fashion Week. Nothing was left to chance, and should one pick up the best epithet for this show, that would be “accurate”, no doubt about it.
The name itself, “Lifelines”, suggests the main source of inspiration for the entire collection. As a matter of fact, the designer was guided by the most relevant basic element of her life, a family: symbol of this supreme value, a tree, which was the core image of the show, both in 3D, with a complex composition of twines of roots, and in 2D, with a psychedelic endless video projected during the runway and showing a perpetual genesis of white roots on a black ground. Exceptional complement, the music: a progressivity of electronic music, created for this occasion, that was totally in line with mood and feelings transmitted by the outfits.
The runway started with a bright white dress, and ended up in that same way. But apart from that, tonalities were mainly dark, with constantly unusual choices of pairing fabrics: leather went hand in hand with soft transparent silk, white decorated woollen sweaters were coupled with carbonic trousers, neon long dresses were alternated by masculine autumnal outfits. Everything was all about experimentation, feminine shape was almost relegated to a secondary role. Still, there was always space for romance: soft white was never missing, not only in the make up massively applied to models, but also, and especially, in the complex accessories completing the outfits, a smart, unusual couple of earrings made out through an innovative software and produced through a 3D printer, a technology that has been used for the very first time in Belarus for this occasion. The earrings were simply unique: an elaborated reproduction of roots’ shapes that circumvented ear and came out to be the absolute protagonist of the outfit.
The most impressive accessory, though, was a headgear, shown in the last outfit and coupled with a white bride-like dress. An interesting contraposition with the romantic shape of the garments, this item was made out using the same technique of the earrings, and the final effect was simply stunning.
Kucherenko is among the promising talents of Belarusian fashion sphere: the designer is tailor-made oriented. Still, opportunity for wide-scale success are just behind the corner. Let’s keep in touch.
