Newton console

Newton console - Cover
An apple inspired Isaac Newton to formulate the Law of Gravity, and Isaac Newton inspired design firm Boca do Lobo to create the Newton Console—a table perfect for holding, say, a bowl of apples. It all comes back full circle, which is highly appropriate for this highly circular piece of art. Although the glossy, black and gold spheres give the table a futuristic look, the oblique shape oddly resembles an acacia tree.

128 cm wide and 85 cm tall, the table is ideal for living rooms and hotel lobbies with a modern aesthetic. It may be named after a science nerd, but the table oozes luxury. Made from aluminum and covered with a high-gloss varnish, the table reflects light and pretty much anything surrounding it crisply, adding an extra dimension to this baroque-à-la-mode console. This is the younger cousin of Boca do Lobo’s Newton Dining Table, which contains materials like myrtle burl, walnut root, and brass.

Boca do Lobo means “mouth of the wolf” in Portuguese. Since 2005, the Tinto-based company has strived to bring emotion into interior decoration. Their products have yet to hit a style plateau in which they all start to resemble one other, due to the company’s emphasis on adding and reinventing new contexts for their time-honored techniques of Portuguese woodworking. “We design for surprise,” says CEO Amândio Pereira. And that’s coming straight from the mouth of the wolf.
