The Parisian based designer Grégoire de Lafforest brings the concept of a coffee table to a whole new level. Throughout his new Archibird cage table he brings to our attention the perfect combination between sculpture and furniture, creating a desirable home masterpiece.
A custom designed birdcage is integrated in to a console oak table, trying to break conventional codes by placing the birds’ habitants on a little stage as in a theatre.
The designer (in collaboration with Ateliers Seewhy) paid a specific attention towards the material selection, choosing and redefining all the particular details in order to obtain one harmonious piece. The designer says that the glass domes are a reference to the curiosity cabinets of the past. The main intention of de Lafforest has been driven by the lightness and illusion, for instance the bottom part of the cage is suspended to the steel robs, but in reality it is supported by the tree branches. The legs are also shaped to achieve the aerial feeling. Its purity gives an idealized vision of nature.
A special attention is also paid toward the organic sensibility of the tree, making sure it has as natural form as possible. The space for the birds is designed so that they can be easily fed and includes several perches, feeders and a small pool for water.
At the moment the Archibird cage is being exhibited at Gallery Gosserez in Paris.
